Swimming Pool Accidents

Each year, more than 300 children under 5 years old drown in residential swimming pools, usually in a pool owned by their own family. In addition, more than 2,000 children in that age group are treated in hospital emergency rooms for injures resulting from swimming pool accidents.

Swimming pool accidents are most often caused by:

lack of proper supervision
slick surfaces
improperly built pool equipment
ack of a lifeguard
failure to fence off the swimming pool area

Less than fatal swimming pool accidents can cause serious long term consequences as well. Diving into shallow water, slips and falls, and reactions to chemicals in the swimming pool water have also caused many injuries.
